Lake Oconee March Fishing Report

Bass- The females are beginning to stage for the spawn. You will find the better fishing up in coves/creeks where there is more shallow water. These shallower depths are warming qucicker than the main channels. This is where you will find the fish.

Crappie- The late March crappie bite has been pretty good despite all of the rain we have had. The water still has not hit the 55 degree mark, which is optimal for the crappie bite. Continue your troll with live bait on a weighted hook. The water temps still have the fish moving slow.

Striper- After a long winter wait, it is finally time to chase the striper. The most popular method we have found this time of year is down-lining with blue back herring or large bass minnows. This, in addition to a slow troll should result in sucess. Just remember these fish travel in schools, so if you are not seeing fish relatively quick it may be time to pull up and relocate.
